Range Area Charts are usually used to demonstrate how a range of a continuous value changes in time. These charts look like Area but the lower boundary is not the X-Axis but the array of the lowest values.
This particular chart shows an area range of values that represent sales of the A2 band CD. The lower boundary stands for the sales amount in 2000 year, while the higher one describes the CD sales in 2010. All points of the chart are interactive, they can be selected and hovered. While a point is hovered, its tootip shows up with all the info about this point (the maximum and minimum values for it and the current month). This Chart does not use a legend as it has an only series, as well as there is no grid. The maximum Y-Axis value is 9000, and the X-Axis contains the categories (month).
